~*tHe HObBIt CoMPuTer GamE, BoARd GamE, MoViE & BoOk!*~
Recently we read the hobbit for English. We also got the opportunity to watch the movie, play the computer game and play the board game.
All of these related marvellously well to he book, except for a few little hiccups here and there.
The computer game was probably my favourite out of the activities. It could keep me entertained for hours, and it was great to have so many challenging things to work put. The levels made it interesting and so did trying to collect as many coins as you could. It was good animation and they way bilbo would walk backwards was hilarious. It related very well to the book, and I think it would be easier if you read the book in advance.
The board game was fun, although it wouldn’t keep me happy for long. Its continuos method would have me bored to the moon. It needs to have something more exciting every now and then, but it was still good at the start. It takes a long time to finish and I think most players would quit before they got to the end. Its relation to the book was a bit foggy also. It did not have all the challenging things that happened in the book, and it was more suited to the Lord of The Rings movies.
The movie was a classic. It was very good animation for the seventies, and its relation to the book was fantastic. Bilbo’s looks were targeted towards younger children, but I think the story line would be a bit confusing for them. It included everything it needed too and made the book easier to understand because it wasn’t spoken in olden day style like the book.

i think a hero is a someone, (not Necessarily a human), that does something great or something worth getting an award for. They might just help their friend out or a hero might even save the world!
My Country- A POeM bY mE!
I love a land of colours,
Of green, of blue and gold,
A rainbow coloured country,
A land that’s bright and bold.
I love her ochre rocks,
Her aqua lakes and sea,
Her bush-land and her blowholes,
This land is fine for me.
I love a land of nature,
Of animals big and small,
From her wombats to her birds,
And emus five feet tall.
I love a land of forest,
Her bush, her shrubs and trees,
The land of wattle and gum,
From the centre to the sea,
I love a coastal border,
Of blue seas and golden sand,
Her rock pools and her oceans,
Surrounding our great land.
I love a land of mountains,
Of dust, of rain and snow
This land is just amazing,
Just look at what’s on show
I love a land of culture,
Where people love to share
A country that is grand,
For all to love and care,
I love a land of people
Of old, of young and new,
“We are so very lucky”
Fair dinkum, that is true.

~*~Worm Story~*~
In the last couple of years I have read some good books but I chose Morris Glietzman’s ‘Worm Story!” because I thought it was the best. Morris has written twenty-two books, including “Toad Rage”, “Adults Only” and “Puppy Fat!” I learnt from reading this book that tiny little microbes that naked eye cant see still have feelings. They have a job, a family and a mind, and they enjoy adventures just as much as we do. I would recommend this book for people between the ages of ten and fourteen who like having fun. The plot of “Worm Story” is about Wilton, a stomach worm that wants to start a new life but doesn’t know what to do. He travels down a large tube also known as the intestines exploring everything he sees. On the way to a better life Wilton meets Algy. Wilton finds out that Algy likes to crawl into him and nibble on his stomach. At first Wilton is upset but then he realises that everyone does what they can to survive. The first things they see when they come out of the tube are two big hills, (bottom cheeks) and some really long worms all sown together aka undies. They leave the person the living in, Janet, and travel. Eventually they return to Janet only to find that she is upset. Algy is faced with a life or death situation to save Janet. He decides to go ahead with the challenge. Will he survive? Will Janet get better? What happens to Wilton? These are only some of the questions you will be asking if you read this book. So come on and give it a try!
~*~Juggling with Mandarins~*~
Earlier this year we read “Juggling with Mandarins”, these are my ansewers to the questions.
- What issues do you think the book deals with?
The issues in this book deal with Pip’s Family, Friends and Rock climbing. His family issues are with his dad and his brother! His dad doesn’t understand him and want’s Pip to be as good as his brother Nick, in soccer, but Pip doesn’t want to be. Nick is always teasing him and doesn’t respect his privacy. He also now has feelings for one of his best friends, but she doesn’t feel the same way about him.
- I enjoyed the book when Pip first learns to juggle three balls, i also enjoyed when he ran away from the last soccer match. I liked this part because it was when Pip was finally standing upp for himself.
- I didn’t understand why the author didn’t tell us what happened with Katie in the end, how did his dad hurt his leg? and why didn’t Jordan Archer win the competion?
- My favourite character was Trixie, i liked the way she sounded, and the way she cheered on Pip and the way she didn’t care what other people thoought of her.
- I did think that the ending with Pip and Katie would be different, they shouldn’t have got togeather, but maybe they could have made up and become friends again.
- The book is called Juggling with mandarins, because it it similar to him juggling with the decisions he makes in life, it is also called juggling with Mandarins because Pip juggles with Mandarins.
